Competitions

“For students who are serious, dedicated, and excited about dance, belonging to MDC Company means getting a chance to develop their technique quickly and correctly through intense focus and practice.”

GRADES PRE K/KINDERGARTEN   - LITTLE GEMS 

Designed for our youngest dancers, this team introduces the foundations of movement, rhythm, and confidence in a fun and nurturing environment. Dancers will begin building technique while exploring their love for performance and teamwork.
REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Pre-Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

 

GRADES 1-3 -  RUBIES 

Rubies continue developing strong fundamentals while gaining confidence on stage. This team focuses on technique, performance quality, and teamwork, helping dancers grow both technically and artistically. 

REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, Technique, Tap, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

GRADES 3-5 - TOPAZ
Topaz dancers begin refining their technique while pushing themselves to grow in versatility and performance. This team encourages discipline, focus, and a deeper understanding of dance styles.

REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Contemporary, Technique, Tap, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

GRADES 4-6 - SAPPHIRES 

Sapphire dancers elevate their training with a stronger focus on technique, flexibility, and stage presence. This team challenges dancers to push beyond their comfort zone and develop confidence as performers.

REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Contemporary,Technique, Musical Theater, Tap, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

 

GRADES 7-9  - EMERALDS 

Emerald dancers are dedicated and driven, focusing on refining technique while developing emotional expression and performance depth. This team emphasizes discipline, consistency, and passion for the art of dance.

REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Contemporary,Technique, Musical Theater, Tap, Drill, Technique, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

 

GRADES 10+ DIAMONDS 

Diamonds represent the highest level of dedication within our core program. Dancers are expected to demonstrate strong technique, artistry, and leadership while preparing for advanced performance opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS: Participation in at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Contemporary,Technique, Musical Theater, Tap, Drill, Technique, or Ballroom) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

SOLOISTS (ALL AGES)

Our Soloists program is designed for dancers ready to step into their own spotlight. Each dancer works closely with instructors to develop a personalized routine that highlights their unique strengths, style, and artistry. This experience builds confidence, discipline, and a deeper connection to performance while allowing dancers to grow at an accelerated pace.

REQUIREMENTS: Soloists must be enrolled in at least one technical class (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Drill Team, or Technique), audition for team dances as part of the overall program commitment in order to maintain their soloist status, and attend a minimum of 3 regional competitions (local), and 1 national competition each season. Dancers who earn scholarships or additional opportunities may attend more than one national competition.

ELITE TEAMS

Our Elite Team is designed for dancers who demonstrate exceptional dedication, strong work ethic, and advanced technical ability. As the highest level within the Motion program, Elite dancers are challenged to refine their technique, expand their versatility, and perform with confidence and artistry at an elevated standard. This team is for those fully committed to growth and ready to take their competitive dance experience to the next level.

Requirements: Elite dancers must have completed at least one full season with Motion and demonstrate the ability to execute advanced technical skills across core styles (Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, etc.). Participation includes attending 4 regional competitions and 1 national competition each season, as well as committing to one weekly private lesson to support and elevate individual technique.

BALLROOM STARS

Ballroom Stars is centered on the art of partnership where dancers learn to move as one. This team focuses on refined technique, musicality, and the unique bond between partners, building trust, communication, and confidence on the dance floor. Dancers develop grace, poise, and presence while mastering the beauty and discipline of ballroom styles.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be taking Ballroom at the studio and must be taking at least one technical class at the studio such as (Ballet, Jazz, Acro, Lyrical, Technique) and attendance at 2 regional competitions (local).

Auditions

Motion Dance Center, MDC Company is a competitive dance team for dancers aged 5 and up.

AUDITION PROCESS

Our members are accepted through an audition process that includes performing a series of dance combinations for the director and judges, an interview, and a questionnaire completed by the applicant and one parent.

The member and both parents are required to sign a contract that commits them to take specified classes and attending specified competitions, workshops, and other events, which begin in August.

 

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is reevaluated each year based on the student’s growth and contribution to the team, including commitment, participation, integrity, maturity, respect, and interactions with fellow members, teachers, and the director.

Company members take dance classes and attend rehearsals Monday through Friday (usually 3-4 days a week; schedules vary with all students), with core classes in Ballet, Jazz (Company Technique) and Ballroom.

 

MDC Company Little Gems, Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds, and Diamonds teams are required to attend competitions. This year, we will start with our first competition April 10th. Elite Teams and soloists first competition will be February 13th.

 

This is for students who are talented, serious, dedicated, and excited about dance, belonging to MDC Company means getting a chance to develop their technique quickly and correctly through intense focus and practice. With that, their poise, sense of artistry, self-confidence, and self-discipline will also grow. 

 

Belonging to a Company also means working well with a team. Good sportsmanship, peer support, polite manners, integrity, and age-appropriate maturity are expected. This positive attitude, combined with hard work and a significant investment of time, results in a strong bond between Company members. You will form genuine friendships here that will last a lifetime. Additionally, you will develop a deep understanding of commitment and discipline that will prepare you for college and a future career, whether or not that involves dance.
